How we work

How we find the cause.

Understand first, then protect.

01

Listen and examine

We ask about your daily life and your symptoms and examine teeth, chewing muscles and jaw joint.

02

Understand the interplay

In functional diagnostics we look at how upper and lower jaw meet and where strain arises. You see what we see.

03

Make the splint

Your Michigan splint is made individually for you, based on a digital scan, without an impression. It is made of firm, transparent acrylic and is usually worn at night.

04

Fit and adjust

We fit the splint precisely and fine-tune it. At a follow-up we check how you are getting on with it.

Why Zahnlounge

More than a splint.

A splint protects the teeth. The diagnostics beforehand make sure it suits you.

Functional diagnostics as a core field

The interplay of teeth, muscles and jaw joint is one of the core fields of Dr. Dominika Kleinert-Baltsios.

The Michigan splint

A firm, precisely adjusted splint that protects your teeth and relieves the chewing muscles.

Digital, without an impression

A digital scan captures your teeth in a few minutes. The splint is then made precisely on that basis.

Good to know

Clarity before you book.

What people ask us about teeth grinding.

01What is a Michigan splint?⌄
A Michigan splint is a custom-made bite splint of firm, transparent acrylic, often called a night guard. It protects the teeth from wear and relieves the chewing muscles and jaw joint. It is adjusted precisely to your bite.
02When do I wear the splint?⌄
As a rule, at night. With strong clenching during the day it can also help for a few hours in the daytime. We discuss this after the diagnostics.
03How do I know that I grind my teeth?⌄
Typical signs are a tense jaw in the morning, head or neck pain, sensitive teeth and flattened or chipped tooth edges. Often the person sleeping next to you notices first. At a check-up we see the traces on the teeth.
04Does the grinding stop with the splint?⌄
The splint protects your teeth and relieves the muscles, and many symptoms ease with it. The cause often lies in tension. That is why we look together at what else does you good.
